Charcoal study for the Ruby Slipper
The Ruby Slipper
A late night out
returning home
a little tipsy
Weak and weary
One shoe off and
one shoe on
oh dear
her ruby slipper
gone
Nevermind
Walking along
She’d felt uneasy
A sound behind her
swooping, breezy
One last night cap
pink martini
stirred not shaken
to still
her heart beating
Sleep takes over
Breathing evens
dreaming dreams
With no place to go
Was that prince charming
at the party
who took her in his arms
And swept her off the floor
Ebony feathers
Broad shoulders
And a pronounced
aristocratic beak
Quite possibly
Now wings beating
as she’s sleeping
flying through
her chamber door
Sleep my maiden
Don’t awaken
I’ve brought your
ruby slipper home
Quoth the raven
Nevermore
